Toyota Repair: ac, toyota camry, revolution speed

Question
QUESTION: 85 toyota camry  330000 miles.  the ac button just started flashing today.  up until today the light that says ac just stayed on while the ac was on, but now when you push the ac button to start blowing cold air, the light flashes.  what does it mean when the light starts flashing?

ANSWER: It may be low on freon, it should be checked using pressure gauges to see if freon needs to be added, another common problem was that the revolution speed sensor on the compressor failed and may need to be replaced. If the freon level is ok then this may very well be the cause. This speed sensor is located at the rear of the compressor, it's round and has two wires connected to it.

QUESTION: what is the revolution speed sensor responsible for doing?   if there is enough freon and the sensor is bad, will it cause the ac to not blow cold anymore

Answer
The speed sensor was used to send a speed signal of the compressor to the computer, it was basically a sensor that would tell the computer if the compressor is locking up and remove power from the compressor to disable it, in some cases the compressors did sieze up but most of the time replacing the rpm sensor fixed the problem. The answer to your last question would be, Yes.
