Toyota Repair: 2005 Camry XLE Auto 32,000 miles, torque converter clutch, camry xle

Question
Data Trouble Code: P2769, Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit low! Can I fix this myself and how? If not, who do you recommend and aprox cost? Just failed the smog test due to the engine light illuminated plus the VSC and TRAC OFF lights illuminated too! Car seems to run fine. Hope you can help, Mike.

Answer
There are a couple of reasons this code may set, the torque converter lock-up solenoid is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced, it's located inside the transmission on the valve body and may require valve body removal, the other cause may be that transmission failure or torque converter failure is causing metal particles to enter the transmission fluid, in that case it will clog up the solenoid and set a code. Before doing anything I would recommend removing the transmission oil pan and checking it for metal particles or other debris in the bottom of the pan, if there are then it would mean the transmission needs to be replaced.
