Toyota Repair: 87 supra 7m-gte, mass air flow meter, mass air flow

Question
I have a turbo supra that keeps giving me the 31 code,( airflow meter signal)I just recently changed out the mass air flow meter and right now the the car finally starts, but when I try to drive it, I shift to 2nd gear and the engine bogs down like misfiring. the engine also sputters when in idle.  I have also tried to reset the code after changing the airflow meter but then the engine wont start until about 3 cranks and the signal comes back what else do you suggest I look at for this problem?

Answer
Chris,
you need to hook a good scanner up to the car.
How many miles on the car?
How many miles since last tune-up?
Something else is causing the code 31 to be set,
this happens a lot with cars.
Check spark plugs and ignition wires, make sure the distributor
cap is good underneath and everything is OK in the distrib.
The aluminum intake might need cleaning.
Remove the big rubber hose going to the alum intake
and inspect it carefully for cracks.
