Toyota Repair: 2001 Toyota Avalon XLS, toyota hotline, toyota avalon

Question
Since I have had this car I bought in 2005, master cylinder has been replaced as the problem was brakes muchy and VSC & engine light on all the time. Then yr later they replaced a resonator.  Lights are now on again & book says go to shop immediately. I read some info on Internet, I topped off brake fluid, I went to Advanced Auto to see if fuse needed to be replaced, it did not.  As I was reading Internet, I see a ton of people have had problems with this. I have a number to call Toyota Hotline. I wanted to ask you first what I should do, since this has happened 3 times to me since I bought the car. I read somemthing about an O ring might be back. My son asked a mechanic and he said need Toyota to check the syatem, I called and they want $100 just to test. The last time I went in for oil change they wrote done somethings I should get dona and almost $1,000. Is Toyota the only ones that check this system??  That is more than what I get from Social Security.
Anyhting you can tell me that will not cost a fortune! I still have to pay fore this car for another yr.

Thanking you in advance. Nancy

Answer
Nancy,

First of all the car should not be driven until a very good Toyota
tech looks at it.
Call Toyota dealerships until you get a good answer to the question
" Is there a recall on this car issue?"
If there is not a recall then find a small repair shop.
There are competent small repair shops out there, ask friends and family who they recommend.
