Toyota Repair: Removing wheel well liner, antenna mast, antenna cable

Question
QUESTION: My antenna mast will not retract... I have done the research and bought a new mast with the cable. I had everything ready to replace the mast but I can't seem to get the liner off to get to the antenna motor...how do you get the plug things off?

ANSWER: There some screws on the inner liner as well as along the outer edge of the fender, there may also be some plastic clips that should be pried out, start towards the rear, there is a screw on the bottom at the rear of the fender, just pull the liner foreward enough to get to the antenna, removing the wheel helps, it will give you more room to work with.

QUESTION: I ended up just pulling out some of them and others I was able to get out freely. Now I ran into a problem after the install....Once, I got into the wheel well, I removed the motor and took it apart to remove the old nylon cord pieces inside. I put it back together and reattached it to the car. I turned the radio on and let the antenna motor run until it thought it was all the way up. I then proceeded to turn it off and feed the new cord into the antenna opening. I went down fine and everything was great until I tried to turn the radio on. Once the antenna is all the way up the motor keeps going and begins to grind on the teeth of the new cord. I have tried feeding it in at different times to see if it was just a timing issue but it still does it every time. I had to unplug the power harness to the motor so it wouldn't do it every time I turn the car on. Do you have any thoughts as to how to fix this problem?

Answer
It may be the incorrect antenna cable/mast, there is still a piece inside the motor, there is a thin metal sleeve that fits inside the top of the antenna housing make sure  this sleeve didn't stick to the old antenna, if not installed the antenna cable can come up too high causing it to lose contact with the gear.
