Toyota Repair: Toyota 4 Runner, toyota 4 runner, diagnostic fee

My toyota feels like it is skipping a beat when driving, it does not always doe this and has just statrted but I notice it most when I accelerate at a stop or I'm drving a slower speed. It makes the truck jump slightly and my engine light has just come on..any ideas what's going on??

It sounds like the engine may have an electrical misfire, the check engine light turns on because of this, there are diagnostic trouble codes stored in the onboard computer, these codes can be read using a diagnostic scantool,most of the larger autoparts chain stores(autozone, kragen) will retrieve the codes at no charge, the dealer and most repair shops will charge a diagnostic fee of around $90, please have the codes retrieved and then if necessary let me know what they are, I would also need to know what year it is and what engine it has, check the label under the hood for engine designation information.
