Toyota Repair: Power antenna - 2001 4Runner, phillips screws, antenna base

Question
The antenna has broken off. The motor appears to function as it still runs when the radio is turned on and off. Is it possible for a novice mechanic to replace the antenna and if so how.

Answer
The entire antenna doesn't need to be replaced, just the antenna cable/mast but the antenna has to be removed and opened up to remove the broken piece out of the motor, the inner fender liner has to be removed, remove the top mounting nut on the antenna base, remove the 10mm bolt on the bracket that holds the antenna motor on, the antenna lead does not disconnect from the motor so it will have to be taken apart right there, there is a small bolt in the center of the housing and some phillips screws, remove them all and the plastic housing comes off, remove the round cover on the inside to get the broken piece of the mast out and put everything back together,do not put on the chrome top nut at this time, turn the key on and the radio on, wait for the motor to stop, while someone turns the radio off feed the cable into the opening with the teeth facing backwards, the cable will catch the gear and pull it in, reinstall the top nut on the base.
