Toyota Repair: 1996 Camry LE V6 will not rev past 3000 RPM when engine reaches normal operating temp, toyota camry v6, coolant temperature sensor

Question
Hi there-

I have a 1996 Toyota Camry V6 with 137K miles. When the car is first started, and for about the first 15 minutes, it runs great and I can rev the engine as hard as I like. However, after the engine reaches normal operating temperature the vehicle will not let me rev the engine past 3000 rpm. Sometimes, if I have been driving it on a long trip, it will not let me rev past 2600/2800 rpm. This problem has consistently, and will only occur when the engine gets warm. I have never gotten a trouble code but, my mechanic was able to get a trouble code after thrashing the throttle for a while which led him to replace the camshaft sensor, however this did not solve the problem.

Answer
Jamie,
Unfortunately a lot of mechanics guess and replace parts until the
problem goes away, and the customer's checkbook takes a big hit.
The first thing I would do is test the speed sensor, TPS(throttle position sensor), and CTS (coolant temperature sensor). Find a good
Toyota technician that knows how to do this.

Good luck,
let me know the outcome.

Tim.
