Toyota Repair: 93 camry air compressor, r 134 freon, r 12 freon

Question
Car is dormant for 6 mo each year (snow bird) when I returned this time no compressor turn on.  air button lights on, fan on but no compressor kick in.  I always pull a main engine fuse as a security measure and I had to pull the battery and recharge, but everything else the same.

Answer
It's probably low on freon, have a qualified a/c technician check it, this car uses the R-12 freon which is no longer available to the public, another solution would be to get a retrofit kit from an autoparts store that will change the system over to the R-134 freon that all cars are using now, just follow the installation instructions that come with the kit, by the way R-12 costs about $65 a pound versus the R-134 at about $20.
