Toyota Repair: unable to shift out of park 1997 Toyota Corolla DX, brake light switch, blown fuse

I am unable to shift out of park in my 1997 Toyota Corolla DX. I think it may be the shift lock solenoid.

First check the fuses under the dash, it may just be a blown fuse, check the brake lights to see if they work when the pedal is depressed, if the brake lights don't work it won't shift out of park, check the fuse marked "stop" in the fuse panel inside. If the fuse is good and none of the brake lights work check the bulbs if they are good replace the brake light switch located under the dash.
