Toyota Repair: Rear struts 99 Camry, rear struts, speed bumps

Question
I had an alignment and they did a "courtesy check" and said my rear gas
struts were leaking slightly and should be replaced at some point soon, but
that it wasn't urgent. The car has 87,000 miles on it. How soon should I
replace it or should I wait till it fails? And what happens if it fails?

Thanks.

Answer
Look at the struts and see if they are leaking, if they are they will look wet near the top, if not, don't replace them, do the bounce test bouce the car at the rear it should not bounce more than once, if it feels loose or bounces a few times after boucing it then the struts are weak, you also get a good indication by driving over bumps or speed bumps, excessive bouncing means the struts are bad, they should feel solid with only a minumum amount of the bouncing feeling.
