Toyota Repair: sparking problem somewhere, 22r engine, 22re engines

I have a 84 toyota 2wd 22r that i ran completely out of gas and then it wouldnt restart.We checked gas filters,gas lines ,changed the fuel pump and all kinds of stuff and it sounds def now like its just not getting sparks.And I heard that theres some kind of ignition something?that is bad on toyotas and  thats hopefully making my new fuel pump not to pump gas.Do u have a suggestion.No spark and no gas pumping?

Check the problem for the no spark first, I assume that it is carbureted since you say it's a 22R engine, before I go deeper into trying to help I need to know if this is so. A common problem for both 22R and 22RE engines is the pickup coil in the distributor, try another distributor first, also check all fusesunder the hood and inside the cab.
