Toyota Repair: 1993 Toyota Camery (USA), toyota camery, salvage yard

Question
I bought this car with 116000 miles and done great with no problems. I left work one mourning and got about 3 miles and the car died like you shut the key off, no warning, nothing. I checked the timing belt and was ok timing good, checked the firing and no fire to plugs. I know there are a lot of relays and fuses which I checked the fuses and they are ok. I have worked on Toyota cars and trucks and there are pretty easy but my electrical experience is limited. Can you give me somewhere to start and things to check.

Answer
Theses engines were known to have distributor problems, remove the distributor cap and rotor and the coil cover and check the coil for any cracks or burned spots, the can crack or leak and short to ground, the coil can be replaced but no other parts are available so if the coil is not the problem I would recommend replacing the distributor, there are aftermarket units available at less than half the cost of the dealer item, the most inexpensive way to check to see if that's the problem is to just try to pick one up at a local salvage yard.
