Toyota Repair: Mass Airflow Sensor Failure??, mass airflow sensor, mass sensor

Question
99 Tacoma v6 3.4L Manual-66k miles

I Just installed a K&N FIPK, due to my old Air housing unit broke near the Filter housing box,it was a clean break where the tube meets the Filter box. The vehicle drove fine with this problem. Toyota dealership said my engine warning light was due to this. I drove the vehicle like this for about 1month.
So, after replacement, everything fit great followed instructions to the T. Engine starts but idle and and acceleration is jerky, feels like it wants to stall when pushing the pedal, and unable to get above 2k RPMs. Note. Engine light did leave after install. I removed the kit hand cleaned the Mass sensor with paper towel and a little carb-cleaner "lol probably not the best to use I know" re-installed everything. No change. unplugged the Mass sensor, started vehicle was able to get above 2k RPM, felt stable but didn't sound right at all. Connected Mass Sensor, started Vehicle again . Still no change and engine light is back on.
           Thank you for your time.

Answer
The MAF may need to be replaced,it depends what the trouble code was(is now)if there is a PO171 code I would suggest replacing the sensor, if there are other codes in the computer besides the 171 please let me know what they are so I can help with diagosing further.
