Toyota Repair: 94 V6 Camry SMOKING, coolant leak, diagnostic fee

Question
I was wondering where this white smoke was coming from. It is on the left side of the engine if I'm standing in front of the car and it has a funny smell. Also when i turn the car off it smells like rubber and makes noises. I know the repair shop will charge me just to look and see what the problem is, so that is why i was asking for your help. Thanks.

Answer
It's hard to diagnose something like this without actually looking at the problem. it sounds like there is a coolant leak at the front of the engine, in most cases this is caused by a leaking water pump, it also seems that the engine is overheating and forcing the coolant into the coolant bottle, the white smoke is actually steam which is caused by the coolant leaking on to the hot engine, the best way to find out what exactly is leaking is to have the cooling system pressurized, this will make the leak appear without even running the engine, yes the shop will charge a diagnostic fee but you will find out what is leaking and then go from there, from where I am I can only guess but I think it may be the water pump.
