Toyota Repair: 94 Camry - Ignition Key Cylinder Stuck..., toyota camry, head bolt

Question
Hello Tedd,

We have a 1994 Toyota Camry with 158K miles. Great car...
The ignition switch will not turn (using the original key nor the duplicate key). I know it is time to replace the cylinder and key. However, we are unable to get it turned to the "ACC" position to remove the cylinder to replace it.
What do you suggest we do to get the switch to the "ACC" position?

Thanks and Best Regards,
Steve

Answer
In that case there are a couple of choices, neither of them simple, the lock cylinder can be drilled out, this messy and time consuming and there is a chance other parts of the lock will be damaged, the other option is to replace the entire lock assembly that mounts to the steering column, it's held on with two special bolts called breakaway bolts, when tightened the head breaks off and leaves a rounded head bolt which can't be removed like a regular bolt so it has to be chiseled off or drilled out.
