-----Question-----
I have a 1993 Toyota 4Runner when I first turn it on in the morning it is fine. After a while the overdrive light begins to flash while the overdrive is on. When I come to a stop light as I start to take off the truck feels like if it's on 4x4 but it's not. I step on the gas even floor it but the truck picks up speed slowly. Once I pick up speed then the truck drives smooth. Any feed back is appreciated. Thanks in advance Ed

Ed,

A flashing overdrive light indicates that a trouble code is set in the transmission computer. It is the same as your check engine light only for the transmission. From what you describe the truck is starting off in a higher gear than first causing it too have no power.  Find your diagnostic connector under the hood. It is a grey little square with a flip open lid. Now use a jumper wire and short pins E1 & TE1 together. Turn the key on and count the number of times the overdrive light flashes. Then write me back and tell me what code or codes you have and I'll look them up.

Answer
Ed,

Code 63 indicates a shorted or disconnected shift solenoid #2.  You should have a mechanic who is good with electric controlled transmissions test the resistance on the shift solenoid. Also, check that there are not melted or pinched wires going to the transmission.
