Toyota Repair: 91 camary question, jumper wire, diagnostic connector

Question
I have a 91 camary 4cyl 4 speed automatic with 187,000 miles on it.  My question is that the transmission started acting weird at first it would do it once in a great while but now it work right once in a great while.  When it is shifting from 1st it will skip second and go directly into drive and when it does this it will not go into overdrive.  I can pull the stick back into second and it will go into second and then and then I shift it into drive when my rpms are up enough but the O.D. is on a push button.  Also when the transmission is acting up the O.D. light will flash and when the transmission does shift correctly the light doesn't, Flash= I am assuming that it a trouble code just my guess.  I hope you can help me I really love this little car A good friend was the original owner I'm the second the only thing that has ever been done to the car other than a timing belt (Preventative Maint.)is I had to replace the coil at 180,000 it is the reason that I have two other Toyota vehicles in the drive way.

Answer
Yes, the light flashing means that there is a trouble code, you can retreive the code yourself by turning the key on and under the hood find the diagnostic connector and open it, place a small jumper wire between the terminals TC and E1, look at the O?D light and count the number of blinks to give you the code, it is a two digit code so it akes a little care not to get them backwards.
For instance a code 12 would be one flash then two and then a short pause, if it's the only code it will just repeat it, if there are other codes they will be released in numerical order, write these down and then contact me again.
