Toyota Repair: rocker arm, rubber gromets, rocker arm

Question
Hi Brandon, I have a 93 toyota reg cab pick up. 4x4,156000.Brought truck to toyota to get doa timing kit installed.Tech couldn't get engine to turn over.He made me get toyota kit.Installed and engine runs.Pickup truck and load noise came from engine . Had it back to them 3 times, he finally says it is the rocker arm hitting the valve cover. They finally made it more quiet by putting larger rubber gromets between valve cover .I can still hear a slight noise.Do you think he is trying to cover something up,like a bent or chipped valve or rocker arm when he tried to install my doa timing kit.( metal backed guides) Thank You Tony

Answer
Pull it & check it out. It's not difficult. Check the valve clerances.

I would be *extremely* careful dealing with DOA. They basically have a flat out horrible reputation online in the Truck community. They've always "talked" about doing certain engine builds, but never delivered, or proven that they have beyond afew words. Many people have been burned in the past by them.
