Toyota Repair: toyota avalon, toyota avalon, manual key

Question
The car starts, runs but I can't get it out of park. Manual key in console override makes clicking noise if I try to override. I am not on a hill, I have restarted the car, checking fuses not sure what else to do

Answer
If the manual override does not allow shifting out of park there is a shift interlock malfunction, the override button directly disables the shift interlock solenoid and if it does not release the interlock solenoid must be stuck, a common cause of this is that soft drinks or coffee containing sugar have been spilled into the console, you can try trmoving the shift console cover and spraying a solution of soap and water on the moving parts to free up the sticking parts if that doesn't work my recommendation would be to have it towed to the toyota dealer and have them diagnose the problem.
