Toyota Repair: data logging for 89 Celica, pin designations, year electrical engineering

Question
Thanks for the info, but there are no error codes for my engine, the 3SGE.
Are the error codes the only output of the ECU? I want to display a virtual dashboard on my laptop when I am driving (with the engine running) and I want to know if I can do this and how.
Thanks again
Michael.

Hi
I am looking at writing a program that inputs and displays all of the information given by my car's ECU.
The car is a 1989 Celica, 250 000 kms, 3SGE engine, ST162 model.
I'd like some information about the OBD plug and how to hook it up to either the serial or parallel port of my laptop, the pin info, and anything else that you deem applicable.

I'm in 3rd year electrical engineering and this is going to be one of my projects, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Michael

Answer -
If you can send me an email address I can email the pin designations of the OBDI connector and a wiring diagram.

Answer -
check your email I have send some information.

Answer
I understand that you have no error codes, this model uses the OBDI system which is somewhat primitive by todays standards in the industry, basically it will display engine  error codes(DTCs) indicated by a number of blinks of the check engine light with the TE1 and E1 connectors of the DLC jumped with a wire, it also has the ability to detect ABS codes by jumping connectors E1 and TC and a couple of other functions such as activating the fuel pump,  this system does not provide a live data stream like the later OBDII system which is still in use today and this is where I think you will have difficulty retreiving any information other than just the trouble codes stored in the computer, this system just does not have the capability.
