Toyota Repair: coolant leak, coolant leak, toyota 4runner

Question
Hello Ted,
I have a 91 toyota 4runner with a 3.0 with a coolant leak at first I thought it was a freeze plug because it is coming out of the back of the engine up high but I found a cooling line that a heater hose attaches to that seems to go under intake. That heater hose attaches to some kind of almn connection and I was doing some pretty serious of road driving when it dumpped all the coolant out. I dont know if I need to pull intake or engine? I have not been able to find a cooling diagram any help would be apprecited thank you! calvin

Answer
There is a coolant transfer pipe under the intake manifold, it sounds like it is leaking and filling the middle of the engine between the heads with coolant, this is not uncommon, to replace it the intake manifold has to be removed, there is no need to remove the engine.
