Toyota Repair: 2000 tundra electrical, battery cables, car battery

Question
Hi Ted, my battery dies instanty when I  try to start my truck. I  was able to jump stat it and get it home. then tried to jump start it again and it tries to start for a little bit then just dies only  a fast clicking electrial sound can be  heard. bad starter, altenator?  p.s cleand battery  cables & posts and tried new battery...thanks Dennis.

Answer
It sounds like the alternator is not charging the battery, try jump starting again with a known good battery, after the engine starts and runs disconnect the batteries, both the jumper and the in car battery, if the engine dies within a few seconds the alternator is not charging, under normal conditions the alternator will provide enough current to keep the engine running.
