Toyota Repair: trany slip, 2ed, camry

1991 V-6 Camry with a 540E transmision will not go forword in low, 2ed, or in 3ed gear. If I really rev the rpm's, then will start to go, once I get going seems to be fine. Also revers works fine.

First of all check the the fluid, check the fluid level with the engine hot and at idle, if the fluid is low there may be a leak on the transmission, if the fluid level is ok see if it smells burned and is dark and discolored, this is an indiacation of major problems and it may be necessary to replace the transmission.
