Toyota Repair: transmission, solinoid, solenoids

Question
2000 camry 89000 miles. Trans wont shift into reverse and it seems that I have no overdrive. The tech did a scan and found the solinoid to be faulty. He says the cost will be any where from 350 to 1200 bucks because there is probably more wrong with it. (trans oil looks ok to him)does all this sound about right, whats the quick fix, do I need to get rid of it, any recalls

Answer
If it won't move in reverse there is a serious problem, it's not a solenoid, the overdrive not working also sends up a major red flag, this transmission has a complete failure and needs to be replaced, don't waste your money replacing solenoids or any other part of the transmission.
There is no quick fix. Sorry for the bad news.
