Toyota Repair: Check Engine Light, toyota land cruiser, trouble code

I own a 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser with 85,000 miles. In the last month or so the check engine light came on and then the next time we go to use the vehicle it will be off and stay off until it comes on again a few days to a week later. Any thoughts? We recently had the starter replaced, however I want to say that the light first came on prior to that repair.

Telling me the check engine light came on is not enough information for me to help.
I need to know the trouble code that is stored in the on board computer to start, can you have someone retreive the trouble codes and then I may be able to help you. Without that information I know just about as much as you do at this point.
