Toyota Repair: compression reading, 1991 toyota mr2, toyota mr2

Question
Could you tell me what the compression reading should be on a
1991 Toyota MR2 2.2 liter. My reading is 112,112,110,and 112.
Are these good readings. Thank You.

Answer
They are a little too low, they should be about 150-180psi, since they are low but relatively even this would indicate a piston ring wear problem. Try doing a "wet compression test" remove the spark plugs and put in a small amount of oil(about 1/2 teaspoon full) of oil into each cylinder and recheck the compression, if the readings come up to 180-200 the rings are the problem.
