Toyota Repair: 1997 Toyota Avalon has had..., toyota avalon, torque converter

Question
1997 Toyota Avalon has had trouble starting. I replaced the battery, then the alternator after it checked bad.  Now check engine light is on. The code  is E-silonoid. You hear a clicking sound when you try to start the engine.  The engine starts after hesitation. Should I buy a new silonoid, approx $300.00? Would this be on the outside of the transmission? Is there some way to check the silonoid before I buy it. Dennis

Answer
The E-solenoid is the torque converter lockup solenoid it is located inside the transmission on the valve body, the valve body has to be removed to replace it, I may be of a little more help if you could tell me what the trouble code was.
The failure of a transmission solenoid does not cause a starting problem so if there is still a starting problem there is something else wrong.
