Toyota Repair: half-shaft, wont pop, retaining clip

Question
Trying to replace a driver side halfshaft on a 92 Camry 2.2L (no abs).  Shaft seperated at the inner knuckle, and I'm left with the housing attached to the trans. It seems to be stuck, prying and yanking just wont pop it out.

Is there some sort of trick, a retaining clip or bolt that's not visible on a replacement halfshaft. Or maybe a process like removing one side before the other. I'm hesitant to remove both sides because Ive heard cases of some transmissions dropping the gear set in the diff.

Thanks, Jason Blade

Answer
You can safely remove both axles, nothing will drop in the differential, the part stuck in the trans can by pried out with large prybars, there is only a thin snap ring which will compress when pulling the axle out.
The trick is to apply even pressure with two pry bars and try rotating it to different positions.
