Toyota Repair: Electrical-starter-no crank, starter solenoid, electrical starter

Question
Got to your site through yotarepair.com - Jack...on his page he describes a internal repair for clicking starters - after my 98 Avalon with 117k sits all day or all night the starter will not engage on the first (sometimes second) crank attempt - it only clicks once.  Will crank normally on second/third attempt, cranks normally when at op temp or if it has only been sitting less than 5+ hours or so (daughter is primary driver) - Jack described this as an internal contact problem with a fix availiable (developed by Honda) involving replacing the contacts only (instead of entire starter.  Do you have any infor on this?  Thanks in advance for your reply...   Peter Gaich

Answer
Yes the contacts are available at the toyota dealer and that is what usually wears out causing the starters to fail and just make a clicking noise, contact the dealer for availability, the starter solenoid needs to be disassembled to replace the contact plates. If you have a problem getting them from the dealer get back to me, there is a part number for the contact kit which I can give you.
