Question - Thank you for your answer.  I found the problem, but was unable to fix it completely because of access.  Even though it is a LE, it does not have auto air..........it has the standard rotary dial with the various mode positions.  What I discovered was that the servomotor seemed to be working and going through all it's movements and the cams and levers seemed to be working as well.  What was not working was a small rod(about six inches long with various angles) that had come loose on one end.  Apparently it's function was is to control air flow between defrost vents and upper face vents.  I could never gain enough access (even after removing upper trim panel surronding instrument cluster, and instrument cluster and lower dash under steering wheel) and while I lied in the the floor board for several hours and developed a creak in my neck!  I finally got frustrated trying to blindly feel where the top end of the rod was supposed to connect.  I was able to manually move this particular cam where the rod was supposed to connect to theposition that gave me air from the "face vents" position.  In the hot summer, I figured it was better to have face air than defrost.  My daughter is getting married and moving to Florida, so will have more need for air than defrost.  I just hope that position stays set and I don't have to go through all this again.  How do the shops get to this, apparently the whole dash has to come out?  Thanks.
Ted:

My daughter's 1994 V6 LE Toyota Camry's air conditioning is working, but will not direct air out of the two middle main vents.  It seems to work in all selector positions but the "face" position (ie, throws air out on floor and defroster positions and intermediate, but not main center upper vents).  A similar question was answered in the your responses about a motor but not sure of its location or how to check and/or replace.  I do hear a noise like a "door" closing when the control is switched to "face" position, but no air comes out.  Your expertise, PLEASE.  Thank you in advance.  Any diagrams would also be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.
Answer -
Since it an LE model I'm assuming it has auto air, is this correct?
This system is very complicated and computer controlled, the parts that fail most often are the in dash control unit or the servomotor, if it's not auto air let me know there may be a simpler solution.

Answer
Thank you for the additional information, we don't run into this problem very much,if we do it is usually caused be a control cable that has come off from the control lever, try to find the cable that is supposed to be attached to that lever and reattach it or you can make it stay in the position it's in by putting a rubber band on.
