Toyota Repair: Voltage Regulator, inner fender, toyota corolla

Question
Hi Ted,
I own a '87 Toyota Corolla LE, 4
cyl.,1.6Lcarbureted model that seems to have electrical problems. Milage:187,300
It ruins alternators quickly.
3 days after I purchased the car the alternator went bad.So I got a new one for it and a new battery as well. But a week later this new alternator went bad (I had it tested.)
The parts store replaced it since it had a limited lifetime warranty.(Auto Zone.)
Well, another alternator was installed but only a few days later this alternator went bad too! This time the charge light stays on.I checked all fuses including the ones near the battery; all are ok.
I checked all fuses ,including the one near the battery;all are ok.
Someone told me the voltage regulator may have went bad, causing these problems. Is that possible?
Where is the voltage regulator located on this model?I would like to have it tested.
Also what else could be wrong?
Thank you kindly for your assistance with this frustrating problem.

Answer
Although I do not have any reference material on hand at this time for an '87 corolla I believe the voltage regulator may be the problem, it should be located somewhere under the hood near the battery on the inner fender area, it's not very expensive and I would recommend just replacing it and then see if it helps.
