Car Stereos: Lanzar MAXP124D wirind specs., dual voice coils, first coil

Question
I have 2 Lanzar MAXP124D 1600 watts Max/800 RMS, they are Dual Voice Coils(VC) @ 4 Ohms. there are 4 Pos./Neg. terminals for each VC, for A total of 8 terminals for each speaker. I'm hooking each speaker to there own terminals in the box. I have A TIS 1800 Watt 2 channel high performance amp that can run 2X300 RMS @ 4 Ohm Stereo, 2x600 RMS @ 2 Ohm Stereo and 1X1800 Peak Power @ 4 Ohm Bridged. I want to run the Subs at 2 Ohm and not 8 Ohm. all Diagrams i sen only show 2 terminals per VC and 4 per Speaker. what is the optimal way to hook up my Subs up? Given the subs I have should i use a sealed box(dual),sealed(single),bandpass(dual),or bandpass(single)?

Answer
Hi Corey,

The two sets of terminals per coil are simply there for ease of installation, and connect to the same place, so for the purpose of my explanation, I'm going to only reference one set of terminals per coil.

The best way to hook up your amplifier and speakers would be to use the amp in 2x600 mode, which each amplifier providing 2ohms of resistance by hooking up the 2 4 ohm coils in parallel.

You connect the negative terminal on channel one of the amplifier to the negative terminal on the first coil as well as the negative terminal on the second coil.

Then connect the positive terminal on channel one of the amplifier to the positive terminal on the first coil as well as the positive terminal on the second coil.

Repeat this with the second channel of the amplifier and the second subwoofer.

You can leave the second set of terminals on each VC on each sub alone; it won't matter.

Another option is to bridge the amplifier, and then hook up the subwoofers' coils in parallel, and then hook up the subwoofers themselves in series, creating a 4ohm circuit.

Connect the negative to negative and positive to positive on each subwoofers' voice coil, and then connect the negative terminal from the amplifier to the negative terminal on subwoofer #1, then connect the positive terminal from subwoofer #1 to the negative terminal of subwoofer #2, and the positive terminal from subwoofer #2 to the positive terminal of the amplifier.

Good luck,
Justin
