Toyota Repair: ECM, toyota dealership, car idles

Question
-------------------------
Followup, Thanks Ted. The problem I have been having is as follows: When I start my 99 Camry ( 4cyl, 45,000 miles ) from a warm or hot start I get an idle that will race back & forth between 500 & 1000 rpms. After a few moments or if I give it gas for a moment it will smooth out and run fairly well. I think this car idles on the rough side. I have been told that this is common for this Camry, but I still think mine is excessive. Back to the erratic idle, this happens most of time in this way; I drive around for a while, stop go into a store, etc. After about 20 to 40 minutes I come back start the car, start it and get this weird idle. I have only owned the Camry for a little over two months. After a few trys the dealership  witnessed the problem and replaced the IAC ( or they say they did). The problem continued. Next the claimed they needed to clear the memory on the PCM ( EMC) and that this should solve the problem. The car is still sometimes acting  this way.I have never had a check engine light come on in this car.

I just sent a very irate email to the service director, service manager, and sales manager demanding that they resovle this issue. I am fed up with this B.S I seem to be getting from this Toyota dealership. Do you have any idea what is causing this problem? Any advice on how to push the issue with the service department? The Car in every other respect is great, drives very well, good gas milage, clean, etc.  Thank you for all of your help.

Question -
Ted, I asked a question recently about a erratic idle on a 99 Camry. Thanks for your reply. The dealer service dept thought it might be the ECM and cleared the memory ( they previously replaced the IAC). Does it take a short period of time for the module to "learn" ? Anything I can do to help the process? The car still has an erractic idle upon warm start up, its  periodic though. I'm getting rather upset with this problem.  Thank you.

I don't remember your original question or my reply to you so could you give me the deatails again, I need to know if it's a V-6 or 4, it sounds like you may be dealing with an engine misfire, is there a check engine light on now?
Is there any way you can let me know what trouble code the dealer cleared out of memory, the idle speed control valve will not turn on the check engine light if it has a problem, there is something else causing it, I need more information, I doubt very seriously the the ECU is the problem, this just doesn't sound right, if the ECU was the problem clearing all the codes won't fix it the problem, it will just come back.

Answer
Ok, if they are convinced that the ECU is causing the problem tell them to go ahead and replace it, I'm assuming that you reside in the US, the federal emission control warranty on the ECU is 8yrs/80,000 miles, have them look it up, your car is still well within those limits.
