Toyota Repair: 1991 Toyota Previa Oil light, exhaust gas recirculation, 1991 toyota previa

Question
Seems I didn't wait for the car to warm up enough.  the Check Engine light came on again (code 71).  This time when checking (E1 to TE1 jumper) I also got the oil light flashing "3" -- I can't find oil flashing codes.  IS that the sender like you supposed?

Thanks

Steve

I have a 1991 Toyota previa LE, California specs.  The "check engine" light came on with a code 71.  I hade the EGR valve replace and light came on again.  Checked the entire system and no other problems.  I replaced the computer (part 89661-28140) with one from a 92 toyota previa (part 89661-28141).  Check engine light went off but now the "oil level" light is flashing. I can't find any codes for it.  It is a 2TZ-FE engine, auto trans.  160K miles.  What is causing the oil light to flash (oil level is fine)
Answer -
Not sure if the computer is causing it so before doing anything else replace the oil level sending unit on the oil pan, this was a common problem and it may be a coincidence that it failed after the computer replacement, if that doesn't fix the problem I would call the toyota dealer parts department and ask if the two numbers are interchangeable, sometimes they supercede a part number and the old number is no longer valid.

Answer
The DTC #71 is a malfunction with the exhaust gas recirculation(EGR)system, you need to find out what the problem is with the egr system, the oil level light has no diagnostic abilities so I don't know why it is flashing 3 times either, I suggest you replace the sending unit and find out if the two computer part numbers are compatible.
