Toyota Repair: Air cabin filter, cabin air filter, toyota camry

Question
Ted,

There is a musty smell that enters my 1999 toyota camry (automatic trans.).  Would changing the air cabin filter eliminate this problem?  Would it be cost effective thing to change myself?  If it is, is it faily easy to change?

Answer
I don't think the 1999 Camry has a cabin air filter, double check your owner's manual, the smell is more likely caused by moisture in the evaporator housing(it's located under the glove compartment.
On the bootom of the housing is a drain hose, make sure it's connected, pull the carpeting back to check, it may also be blocked internally. If the evaporator is not directly under the glove compartment peel the carpet near the center console back, you should see a hose that exits through the firewall or the floor.
