Toyota Repair: 88 camry cranks, but no start, air flow sensor, air flow meter

Question
greetings,My wife used to drive this car,but the hesitation scared her away from driving it. so i was suppose to try to figure out that problem but got preocupied and it set up for a while.abut two months later ,i tried to start it and it cranked but no start.i jumpered the B+ and fhp on the diagnostic block and replaced the fuel pump.i primed the inside of the intake with gas and it would not start.24 hours later the first start and it runs and continued to start and drove ok for a car that has 249000 miles on it, i believe its a 2.5 liter.after all of that ,i had a gut feeling i didn't fix the problem   and promised myself that i would start it often and make sure it would be  reliable work transportation.ditto it happened again after being set up for two months again.I have bought another car but i was going to give the camry to a needy family for local transportion.my guess since it seems to start when primed through the intake and then
stalls, would  be air flow sensor, the book is not specific on where to locate the circuit open relay.any way i dont remember cars of yesterday being this difficult after setting up for a short duration.would appreciate any probabilities you can come up with.....thanks Al Lewis

Answer
Yes there could be a problem with the air flow meter, it has contacts in it to turn the fuel pump on but before you replace this expensive part check to make sure that there are no air leaks on the intake system, check the intale tube from the air filter to the throttle body, they can crack, check for any other air or vacuum leaks.
I'm not sure exactly where the circuit opening relay is located, I think it's under the right kick panel.
I suggest going to the toyota dealer's parts department they should be able to show you the location on their computer, I can't go back that far on my computer I would have to try to find a repair manual that goes back to that year.
