Toyota Repair: ignition, toyota 4runner, lock cylinder

Question
my car is a 1992 toyota 4runner 5 speed, never had this
problem before now, I  am unable to turn the iginition key, i put
the key in with no problem, but thats all i can do, it won't
turn....I thought it was the key itself, so I got my spare key and
same problem.  I'm wondering if i call out a locksmith, will he be
able to help me, or does this sound like it might be the ignition
itself?
Help!!!!

Answer
This a fairly common problem, the ignition lock cylinder needs to be replaced because of wear, the locksmith may be able to remove the lock cylinder but unless it can be put in the "ACC" position it will have to be drilled out, it may be cheaper to have it towed to a dealer and let them handle it, the new lock will come with a new key which will not work in the rest of the locks, you can either leave it like that or have the new lock re-keyed so that it will work with the old key on the rest of the locks in the doors etc.
