I have low oil pressure on my 1996 toyota camry with the 2.2L engine, I have replaced the oil pump and still have low oil pressure (approx 6-8 psi with a master gauge) @ idle and 3000 rpm.
The engine actually runs great uses no oil, do you think it needs rod bearings, rod and main bearings or am I possibly overlooking something.
if you suggest bearings is it practical to replace them inframe. Your help/suggestions are greatly appreciated as you may know common problems with this engine.
I did remove the valve cover and it just had the normal type varnish, didn't appear to be any sludge as I've heard this is a problem with toyota's.

thanks again for any help!!

why did you originally check the oil pressure?

the oil light was flickering at idle, and at times going down the highway I was hoping it was just the sender but not the case, could there be a loose plug in the oil galley.

thanks!!

DID YOU REPLACE THE PICK-UP SCREEN?
THIS MAY SOUND SILLY BUT IS THE OIL LEVEL WHERE IT BELONGS AND IS THE FILTER NEW?

I did not replace the pick-up screen but i did check it when I had the pan off to replace the oil pump. oil level is at full, I changed the oil and put 4 qts in. (I believe it takes 3.8 qts.) I tried a new filter 1st thing, I did run Fram filters but have heard alot of bad info. on Fram lately, I have a penzoil filter on it now. I normally run Molbi 1 10W30 synthetic and change at 5000 miles.

Answer
i would only use toyota filters.
i really do not know what the problem it with your truck it is odd. i will ask around the shop to see if this problem as been seen by any other techs. but based on what u have told me i'm at a loss to the source of the oil pressure problem
