Toyota Repair: Standard 60K mile valve job for Sienna?, service toyota, valve adjustment

Question
Hi Ted,

I own a 1999 Sienna with just under 60,000 miles.  Our dealer stated that we should have a valve adjustment done on the vehicle as part of the 60,000 mile service.  Toyota supposedly recommends it.

I have yet to find any supporting evidence to that assertion.  What is your expert opinion?

Thanks very much for your help, Ted!

Cheers,
Chris

Answer
I realize that the factory recommends a valve adjustment at this mileage, let me just say this, I have seen very, very few valves go out of adjustment on the late V-6 engines, most of the time it's just checking to see if the clearance is correct, if you want to do this as a preventive maintenance it's up to you, personally, I would wait until the valve covers develop a leak and then have the adjustment checked while replacing the valve cover gaskets.
