Toyota Repair: 1992 Corolla Driver Door Handle, phillips screws, srewdriver

The drivers door on my 1992 Corolla can't be opened from inside or out.  Neither handle has any effect.  How do I take the panel off the door from the inside?  Do I need special tools?  I am hoping to find if something has slipped out of place, or needs to be replaced.  I am trading in the car soon and don't want to put a lot into it, but I am tired of climbing over the shifter.

Remove the inside door handle, the panel, for the most part is attached with plastic clips, look for two plastic plugs in the arm rest(maybe three) remove them there are large phillips screws under them, insert a srewdriver between the panel and the door and it will start to pop off.
