Toyota Repair: throttle problems!, high tension wires, 1990 toyota camry

Question
I have a 1990 Toyota camry (automatic,2.0, 127000mi) and when it is in neutral and I press the gas it initialy starts to roar slowly as if the gas doesn't reach the engine or there is air somewhere (like there isn't continuous flow of gas into the engine or gaps between gas intake) but then it picks up and roars normal. The engine sound is smooth, no cranks or other noises. when I am driving it, and say I want to accelarate fast it doesn't react immediately. there is like a 1 to 1.5 second delay and then it rips the street apart as expected of it as an initial reaction. It is prefectly drivable but this problem is irritating me.(could it be a spark plug or an electricity problem, "fingers crossed" transmission, etc.) Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Ahmed Kambal

P.S. I just bought the car two weeks ago and have no idea of its repair history. The problem is minor but it is bothering me because if it is something that is easily fixable I'd rather fix it now than pay the price down the line.

Answer
Hello Ahmed, welcome to my expert page.
There are two areas to consider, an electrical problem or an air/fuel problem.
There may be a breakdown of the secondary electrical system, this includes the spark plugs, high tension wires, distributor cap, dist rotor, or possibly a cracked ignition coil in the distributor.
There could be an air or vacuum leak on the intake system, the most common cause of an intake leak is the large rubber air intake tube that connects the air filter to the throttle body, they are known to develop cracks so check this carefully, let me know if this makes any sense and hopefully fixes your problem.
