Toyota Repair: Paseo, tank unit, fuel sending unit

Question
Hi,
I have a 1992 Toyota Paseo.
My question is regarding the low-gas indicator light in the dashboard. Since about a month, this orange light is always on, even if the gas tank is full. Does this light have an other purpose apart from indicating a gas low level? I have not experienced any problems of driveability so may it just be a short somewhere in the cables? Where should I check to find the problem?
Thanks a lot!

Answer
Hello Eric, welcome to my expert page.
The light is just a warning indicator for low fuel level, it is part of the gas tank fuel sending unit that shows how much fuel there is in the tank, to repair this problem the tank unit must be replaced, if you can live with it you don't need to do anything, you could always remove the bulb, this requires removing the instrument cluster and taking out the bulb at the back of the instrument panel.
