Tractor Repair: case 885 hyd fill point, draft control, recommended oil

QUESTION: Rear lifting arms not dropping fully or lifting fully,where is the fill point for the hydraulic fluid and what fluid does it use. case 885xl 1989-90

ANSWER:    The filler is on the back of the tractor on top of the rear frame.  Case IH Hytran is the recommended oil.

QUESTION: thank you, have filled with oil, still will not lower, does drop down but not very far. will raise but again not very far. when i use the hydraulic spools i can hear them making pressure so the problem looks to be local to the lift arms. the lever seems a bit stiff but is moving, do any of the other controls need to be in a certain position for the lift arm control to work.

  No, there are no other controls that affect the hitch.  There are only 2 controls for it, the height lever and the draft sensitivity lever.  There could be something wrong inside the hitch control valve or with the draft control linkage.  The entire lift cover would have to be removed from the rear end of the tractor to get to these.
