Tractor Repair: 3 point wont go up or down, point linkage, control cables

Question
Hello Arnie, I recently asked you a question regarding remotes 4/12. I wasn't reading the levers properly. I was actually wanting your assistance regarding the 3 point linkage. It wont go up or down. I have replaced all cables both draft and sensing ones. I have removed the top plate and the pin fell out from the adjoining valve (hooks into the part J - on parts catalog). The lever on the left also was removed and I am going to try to put all the bits back in. I notice there are timing marks on the parts list. Any ideas why the 3 point wont go up or down? The people I brought the tractor from never used the 3 point. Could a valve be stuck? I just wont go down - seems to be stuck up?

Answer
I went back in the archives and found your original question.  I see where there was some confusion.  You had said that the remotes did not work, but you had also stated that the control cables for the hitch were broken and you had to hit the valve with a hammer to get it to move, and there was a pin that fell out.  Now that you have replaced the cables and replaced the pin that fell out, I'm sure that there is still a problem inside the hitch valve.  The spool must move freely because there is only the spring on the front that moves it forward.  If you had to hit it with a hammer to get it to move, it will probably have to be removed and taken apart to clean it out and check everything out.
