Tractor Repair: IH 504 tie rod removal, broken tie, tie rod

Question
How do you remove an adjustable front tie rod end? The tie rod tube has a bolt through the tube in which I removed but the broken tie rod end is not wanting to move.

Answer
It's never easy to remove a tie rod end from the tube.  They rust inside the tube and are usually slid inside the tube quite far.  I have had success putting the tube flat on an anvil and pounding on it the full length with a big hammer while rotating it so that it gets pounded all the way around.  This expands the tube slightly and breaks the rust loose.  Then with it clamped in a big vise, you can turn it with a pipe wrench.  Of course, this requires disconnecting the other end of the tie rod from the tractor so that the entire assembly is completely removed so that you can work on it.  If it still does not loosen up, then it may have to be heated with a torch until it's red hot.  I have had a couple that never did come loose and I had to replace the tube also.
