Tractor Repair: 7250 tractor hyd., psi difference, piston pump

Question
When using #1 remote the oil flow stops when the steering hits the stops. It seems to me the breaks are, should i say right at the top. thanks Jim

Answer
There could be a couple different things causing #1 remote to act that way.  There has to be about 400 psi difference between the steering pressure setting, and high pressure standby available from the piston pump.  Steering pressure should be about 2400 psi and high pressure standby should be about 2800.  If they are too close, the steering priority valve gives all the oil to steering and none to the remotes.  Also, there could be something wrong with the steering priority valve itself such as a spool sticking or a blocked orifice.  Check for a broken spring in the flow control spool on #1 remote valve because that can cause a problem also.

The brakes are a separate issue.  Check that the pedals are returning all the way when they are not applied.  Frequently, dirt builds up where the pedal arms go through the firewall to the brake valve and it holds the brake pedal on slightly.  This can also cause the diff lock to not work because the brake pedal switches turn off the diff lock.
