Tractor Repair: case/ih 265 clutch problem, stop screw, clevis

Question
Is it possible that my clutch needs replaced on my case/ih 265 or could it be the trow-out bearing? lately,  When I push the clutch in the tractor won't stop and it sticks in gear. I have been slowly adjusting the clutch stop screw until it works again. After a few months it started happening again. This time I took the ajusting screw out and it worked for a few weeks and then stuck again. Now that the clutch is fully adjusted I guess I have to split the tractor and replace something. help?

Answer
Hello,

It sounds like there may be something wrong with the clutch.  A throw out bearing will not cause it to keep moving when the clutch is pushed in.  When pushing the pedal, there should be a small amount of free travel at the top before you feel any resistance, usually about an inch.  Adjust the length of the rod between the pedal and the clutch housing by turning the clevis until it's correct.  If the clutch still does not work correctly, then the tractor will have to be split to repair or replace the clutch.
