Tractor Repair: valve guide removal, pilot tool, uniform pressure

Question
Farmall Cub (1961)Trying to replace valve guides w/new ones.  CANNOT remove the old ones. I have used Kroil product to "loosen" any built up rust etc.....???didn't work. Thought maybe due to age it was "stuck".  I used a C clamp to apply uniform pressure to try and move them and that didn't work.  What would be your recommendation as to a tool to use to accomplish this and HOW to get them out w/out damaging anything.  Any tips on installation? Thank you~!

Answer
Hello,

It will take alot more pressure than a C clamp.  The head will have to be put in a press with a pilot tool that fits into the guides, and several tons of pressure put on them.  It's best to let an engine machine shop do it because they have the equipment to do it easily, and sometimes the guides need to be reamed after installation to get the valves to fit.  The valve seats will need to be refaced and narrowed anyway, so the shop can do everything at once.
