Question
model 284 intern tractor front end loader leaks down pretty steady about a foot a minute i have  changed oil and filter  i have some knolledge on this but mostly on automobiles

Answer
Hello,

You will have to determine if the oil is bypassing in the lift cylinders of the loader, or in the hydraulic valve on the tractor.  You can try switching the hoses so the boom and bucket operate on opposite valves, or hook up a different implement to the couplers and see if it leaks down also, or cap off the lines to each lift cylinder one at a time to see if the leak changes.  Which ever procedure you use, it will help narrow it down.  If you swap hoses to opposite valves and the problem stays the same, the problem is in the loader cylinders.  If not, it's in the valve.  If you hook up a different implement to the couplers and it leaks down also, it's in the valve.  If not, it's in the loader cylinders.  If you find out that the problem is in the loader cylinders, capping off the lines to one side at a time will show which cylinder needs repair, or you may choose to put new seals in both cylinders and be done with it.  If the leak is in the valve, I don't know if they are repairable or not.  I'm told that parts are no longer available for these tractors from CaseIH, but there may be some aftermarket companies that have parts available.

                      Good luck,

                            Arnie
